Highlights

Let us bring you back to the days where we, as humans, had to forage and source our own food! The Wild Food Weekend is all about exploring our natural surroundings for wild food provided by our very own countryside. There is a big emphasis on foraging, game preparation and using what nature can supply to feed ourselves in our natural environment. 

The weekend will be led by one of our experienced instructors who will demonstrate and guide you through this informative and hands on event. You will be getting lots of practical guidance with food collection, preparation and cooking techniques Many people are unaware of the abundance of edible resources which surround us. This course has been designed to make you aware of some of these great edibles and to learn what to avoid!

This course is open for anyone looking to get back to nature for an enjoyable, interesting and unforgettable outdoor experience.

Over the Wild Food Weekend we will be looking at the following:  
  • Making your own foraging sticks 
  • How to obtain food from the wild 
  • The legal aspects and Golden rules of Foraging 
  • We will teach you how to prepare game in the form of (fish, bird, or mammal) 
  • Food preservation 
  • Bread making 
  • Butchering of a deer 
  • How to make your own Jerky 
  • Campfire cooking techniques 
  • Making teas, Alcohol infusions and Cordials 


Friday evening will be spent setting up camp , covering cutting tool safety, making foraging sticks and relaxing in our beautiful woodland 

On Saturday, as a group we will be foraging , collecting, preparing and cooking all of our own food for the weekend. We will cover several different methods of campfire cooking using fire pits, a Yukon stove and roasting techniques. You will also get the chance to have a go at making your own biltong (jerky). On the final morning we will make a selection of campfire breads and experiment and sample some home made jam for breakfast.

Start: Friday 3pm – Please arrive 15-mins early to avoid a delayed start. 

Finish: Sunday approx. 12pm 

Location: Cotehele National Trust, Cornwall

Age: 16+ (Must attend with a paying adult aged 18+)
